Reputation Marketing

Five Star Review by Andrew C (1)

According to marketing studies conducted by Digital Media Nation,

“A company is going to have an online reputation whether they like it or not."

Why is this important to every single business?

The answer to that question and the corresponding effects are very interesting and simply cannot be ignored.

Updated statistics prove that 92% of consumers read online reviews before engaging with a business, whether that business is online or a physical location.  You can add to that the startling fact that now 79% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations.  This is a marketing game changer in the sense that you can now use online reviews to build trust among new buyers in the market to purchase your services.

The new ROI (Return on Image) a business can expect is directly correlated to not only its online reputation, but how that business markets that online reputation.  Simply managing your reputation is no longer enough to maximize your revenues, profits and gain additional clients.  You can no longer rest on your claim that “You take care of your clients.”  Let’s be honest, most company’s make this comment, whether it is true or not, and clients know this.

The fact is that clients do not care what you say about your business.  This is not a bad thing, but what business is really going to say, “We DO NOT take care of our clients?”  With 92% of consumers looking at online reviews before making a purchasing decision, what really matters is what others are saying or sharing about your brand.  We all hope we are providing a great product and a great customer experience, but in today’s market, that simply is not enough!  You have to have a process in place to market your customer experience in order to attract more business.

Some additional facts that can’t be ignored:

The difference between a 3-star reputation and a 4-star reputation is approximately 20% in additional sales and revenue.

  • 72% of consumers say that positive reviews make them trust a local business more.
  • A whopping 86% of consumers will hesitate to purchase from a business that has negative reviews online.
  • One negative review can cost you 30 new customer opportunities

What does all of this mean?

With the increase in visibility of your business online, if you do not have a process in place to not only provide the best customer experience, but to also MARKET that customer experience, then you may be losing opportunities for additional sales.  You are just passing on additional sales to your competitors that have dialed in a process and have made it part of their culture.  In reality, if you are not marketing your reputation, then you’re mastering the art of sales prevention.

Without a process in place, you are simply rolling the dice and hoping that your clients create an online reputation that is favorable.  Many businesses actually employ this reactive process.  On the other hand, you can be proactive and adopt a process to be “loud and proud” about not only the products and services that you provide, but the customer experience that you provide as well.  This is critical to attracting more consumers to your business via marketing your online reputation.”
